TruthTalk: Young people arise!

TruthTalks Young arise

In last week’s post “Young People Arise” Dr Christopher Peppler noted the role of the role of young people in past revivals.

He also commented that Jesus’ disciples were all quite youthful, and I (Chris’s daughter) had questions like:

  • How young is young?
  • How today’s youth are supposed to “arise” in a practical way, and
  • What about us folk who fall into the “not so young” category, what is our role?

Listen to the TruthTalk podcast and please let me know (truthisthewordsite@gmail.com) if you have any comments or other questions you would like me to address on your behalf in future TruthTalks.

We are working with new hardware so I must apologise that the Q&A section’s audio quality is not as good as I would like, but we will be addressing this.

Click ‘play’ (below) to listen to this TruthTalk, and don’t forget that you can subscribe, and automatically know when a new TruthTalk is dropped, by clicking HERE and choosing your podcatcher of choice. TruthTalks: A Nation reborn in a day?

A Nation reborn banner

On the 22nd April 2017, over one million people converged on a farm just outside Bloemfontein to interceded for the nation of South Africa. This TruthTalk is an account and evaluation of this momentous event.

Things in South Africa have already started changing!
The Q&A session that follows the audio presentation deals with some issues which arise when we consider a gathering of this nature. We explore to what extent churches and individual Christians should be involved in politics, our role in national affairs, and our responsibility to speak truth to power.

This week we are listening to two teachings Dr. Christopher Peppler gave from Isaiah 61 concerning Revival.  In the first teaching, he also asks if we believe you will see revival in OUR day. He uses the Hebrides and the local Kwazisabantu revivals as interesting case studies.

Core Values TruthTalk

TruthTalk for “Core Values”

TruthTalks Core Values

Core Values Image

Talking about what we hold dearest in our hearts…

The full title of this post is “The importance of staying true to Core Values” and in this podcast Dr Christopher Peppler goes into more detail about that and then he and I get into an interesting discussion about this, both:

  • In your own self, and how to judge whether you are drifting from your personal core values, and also
  • In your church, how the church family can do this and what to do if you have a drifting of, or opposing view to the church values

In this conversation we refer to a diagram (a pyramid) representing core values which I have added to this post too in case you missed the first post on Core Values. As always, feedback appreciated!

About Me

My name is Christopher Peppler and I was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1947. While working in the financial sector I achieved a number of business qualifications from the Institute of Bankers, Damelin Management School, and The University of the Witwatersrand Business School. After over 20 years as a banker, I followed God’s calling and joined the ministry full time. After becoming a pastor of what is now a quite considerable church, I  earned an undergraduate theological qualification from the Baptist Theological College of Southern Africa and post-graduate degrees from two United States institutions. I was also awarded the Doctor of Theology in Systematic Theology from the University of Zululand in 2000.

Four years before that I established the South African Theological Seminary (SATS), which today is represented in over 70 countries and has more than 2 500 active students enrolled with it. I presently play an role supervising Masters and Doctoral students.

I am a passionate champion of the Christocentric or Christ-centred Principle, an approach to biblical interpretation and theological construction that emphasises the centrality of Jesus

I have been happily married to Patricia since the age of 20, have two children, Lance and Karen, a daughter-in-law Tracey, and granddaughters Jessica and Kirsten. I have now retired from both church and seminary leadership and devote my time to writing, discipling, and the classical guitar.
