Last week Dr Christopher Peppler opened his post on Pentecost and Babel with the following:

“…the Tower of Babel sheds wonderful light on the glory of Pentecost. My last article covered two important aspects of the Day of Pentecost: The memorial of the birth of the church and the celebration of the day that the Holy Spirit inhabited the church as the presence of God among men. The additional aspect of Pentecost I introduce in this article comes from a comparison of the Tower of Babel disaster with the triumph of Pentecost.”

On Sunday he then expanded on this face to face (mask to mask) when he preached at Lonehill Village church.

In this sermon, delivered at the Lonehill Village Church on Sunday 8th April 2018, I trace the life of Barnabas from Acts 4 to Acts 15.

Barnabas’ life is an example of how we should be encouragers instead of critics, but his story also contains vital truths concerning Christian leadership. In essence, all leaders, in church, ministry, business, or home, should give high priority to developing future leaders and releasing them into effective ministries.

Greetings and welcome to 2018. May you all be blessed in this year and the ones to come.

Today’s post is a TruthTalk sermon called ‘The Joy of our Salvation’, which Dr. Christopher Peppler preached at Lonehill Village Church on Christmas day. In this TruthTalk we hear about what is described as ‘a silver river of joy running through the bible’  called JOY.

This is a wonderful message for those of us who need to remember what it is to be joyful and, more importantly, WHY. 1 Peter 1 is the main reference for this happy and hopeful sermon, so give it a listen now.

Westminster Confession

The Westminster Confession through Jesus spectacles

Many are well educated on the history and contents of the Westminster Confession  of Faith. Some may have just a nodding acquaintance with it, while  some may never have heard this term.

New ArticleI recently read an article in Joy! Magazine asserting that the Westminster Confession “has been described as the finest, most Biblical description and definition of Christian life, faith and practice”. Only those adhering to the Calvinist system of theology could assert such a thing so I promptly submitted an article presenting a different view on the subject. The article is to be published in the August edition of Joy! Magazine. If you would like to read the full article then please click HERE, but for those of you who need a bit of background, here is a brief description of the Westminster Confession.

The Western Confession of Faith was commissioned by the Church of England and published in 1646 to set out its essentially Calvanistic understanding of the Christian Faith. It consists of a number of questions each followed by the Church of England’s response.
The condensed version of the confession, usually referred to as the Shorter Confession, starts with three important questions:
  1. What is the chief end of man?
  2. What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him?
  3. What do the Scriptures principally teach?
My article attempts to answer these questions, not from a Calvinistic standpoint, but from a Jesus-centred perspective. l am deeply committed to the idea that the questions of faith and life should be answered, not in terms of systems of theology, but from what Jesus taught and did

About Me

My name is Christopher Peppler and I was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1947. While working in the financial sector I achieved a number of business qualifications from the Institute of Bankers, Damelin Management School, and The University of the Witwatersrand Business School. After over 20 years as a banker, I followed God’s calling and joined the ministry full time. After becoming a pastor of what is now a quite considerable church, I  earned an undergraduate theological qualification from the Baptist Theological College of Southern Africa and post-graduate degrees from two United States institutions. I was also awarded the Doctor of Theology in Systematic Theology from the University of Zululand in 2000.

Four years before that I established the South African Theological Seminary (SATS), which today is represented in over 70 countries and has more than 2 500 active students enrolled with it. I presently play an role supervising Masters and Doctoral students.

I am a passionate champion of the Christocentric or Christ-centred Principle, an approach to biblical interpretation and theological construction that emphasises the centrality of Jesus

I have been happily married to Patricia since the age of 20, have two children, Lance and Karen, a daughter-in-law Tracey, and granddaughters Jessica and Kirsten. I have now retired from both church and seminary leadership and devote my time to writing, discipling, and the classical guitar.
