‘…you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.’ Mark 7:13[/su_note] I bailed out of the church when I was thirteen years old because I saw only tradition, rite and ritual, and not Jesus.  Now, five decades later, I am hopelessly committed to the church because I see it
Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John 14:8-10 [/su_note] As a
Don’t you hate being called ‘religious’? I regard myself as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, not as a religious person. How about you? I guess the reason I don’t like being called religious is that I associate the word with things like traditions, rituals, and rites that seem man-made rather than
Choosing truth and love over divisiveness and dissension Julius Malema’s and ruling party officials’, devotion to a particular ‘freedom song’ is both confusing and biblically offensive. Which should rate higher on any public servants agenda – to preserve a song about killing farmers because long ago freedom fighters sung it, or to refrain from
A call to restore the centrality of Jesus to the church I attended a wedding recently. The minister was a pleasant young man from a traditional denomination. He conducted the service well enough but he made no reference whatsoever to the Bible, and the name of Jesus came up just once in a casual
There is a way that seems right to man, but in the end it leads to death’ It’s the start of another year. Perhaps we should number it 2008 PC – the year two thousand and eight, Post Crash! The end of last year was a dark time for our share prices, property values,
“Pssst! Let me tell you a secret” It seems that there is a secret on everyone’s lips nowadays. Some, like the ‘The Secret Message of Jesus’, are interesting if a little controversial, but the latest ‘secret’ is just offensive. An Australian TV producer and a number of positive thinking ‘gurus’ have collaborated to produce

Despite the eroding influence of some aspects of post-modern thinking, most of you reading this will agree with me when I declare the Bible to be divinely inspired and authoritative. However, we may well differ in how we interpret the inspired written Word of God. I am currently reading a book entitled ‘Debating Calvinism’.

About Me

My name is Christopher Peppler and I was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1947. While working in the financial sector I achieved a number of business qualifications from the Institute of Bankers, Damelin Management School, and The University of the Witwatersrand Business School. After over 20 years as a banker, I followed God’s calling and joined the ministry full time. After becoming a pastor of what is now a quite considerable church, I  earned an undergraduate theological qualification from the Baptist Theological College of Southern Africa and post-graduate degrees from two United States institutions. I was also awarded the Doctor of Theology in Systematic Theology from the University of Zululand in 2000.

Four years before that I established the South African Theological Seminary (SATS), which today is represented in over 70 countries and has more than 2 500 active students enrolled with it. I presently play an role supervising Masters and Doctoral students.

I am a passionate champion of the Christocentric or Christ-centred Principle, an approach to biblical interpretation and theological construction that emphasises the centrality of Jesus

I have been happily married to Patricia since the age of 20, have two children, Lance and Karen, a daughter-in-law Tracey, and granddaughters Jessica and Kirsten. I have now retired from both church and seminary leadership and devote my time to writing, discipling, and the classical guitar.
